Calcutta Cricket & Football Club
Where Games Became History
The Calcutta Cricket and Football Club in Kolkata is one of the oldest sports clubs in the world. It began in the late 18th century, with roots traced back to around 1792 making it one of the earliest places in India where cricket was formally played. Over time, the club also added football, rugby, hockey, and other sports, becoming an important center for sporting culture during both the British period and modern times. CCFC has hosted many famous matches, and it played a major role in spreading cricket and football in eastern India.
The club’s architecture reflects a mix of old colonial charm and modern facilities. The main clubhouse has a classic colonial look, with sloping roofs, wide verandas, and large open spaces that give it a traditional British-Indian club feel. The grounds include well-kept cricket fields, football lawns, a swimming pool, and indoor sports areas. Although newer buildings and upgrades have been added over time, the CCFC campus still keeps its historic atmosphere. Overall, CCFC represents both Kolkata’s sporting legacy and its cultural connection to the past.
